The baritone, also known as the euphonium (you-phone-knee-um) is a member of the brass family and looks like a small version of the tuba. It sounds similar to the trombone, but it uses valves to change notes like a trumpet instead of a slide (like a trombone).

Physical Characteristics

Baritone players should have moderately full lips, but not too full. A slight overbite is okay, but an underbite would hinder a good sound. 

Other Considerations

Students with braces will find the mouthpiece of the euphonium a bit more comfortable than trumpet or French horn. SFMS provides baritones/euphoniums for students during the school year, but students will need to purchase their own mouthpieces.
